Yvonne de Wit is a deeply grounded jewellery artisan whose life and work are intimately woven with the natural world. Raised on a farm in the Netherlands, four metres below sea level, Yvonne’s love for nature began in childhood, drawn to the colours and textures of the clay beneath her feet. She later studied at the Academy of Art in Arnhem and holds an academic degree in Fine Arts.
In 2000, a holiday to South Africa turned into a life-changing journey. Together with her husband, she settled in a tranquil village nestled in the Western Cape, near the Langeberg Mountains. The breathtaking beauty of the African landscape stirred something ancient and sacred within her—a sense of belonging her mother had once gently spoken of: “You are a child who belongs in nature.”
Inspired by this deep-rooted connection, Yvonne began expressing herself through land and landscape art, welcoming visitors from far and wide to their small holding. One of her final land art projects, created with a vibrant palette of local soils, sparked a beautiful realisation: to give others a way to carry the earth with them. And so, her heartfelt “Down to Earth” jewellery collection was born.
Crafted by hand using local soil, stones, and metals such as copper, brass, and silver, each piece in Yvonne’s collection is a tribute to the land that nourishes us. She brings soulful craftsmanship and reverence into every handmade creation. Her work now includes soil from South Africa and Namibia, gently blended with natural pigments from Italy—celebrating not only the land’s beauty, but its cultural and spiritual richness. A significant part of her collection is inspired by the Golden Ratio of the Italian mathematician, Fibonacci (1170-1250AD)
Yvonne’s pieces have found their home at Studio98 in Napier, Overberg, where she and her photographer husband now live.
Here, amidst the quiet magic of the Soetmuisberg Mountain Range, visitors are invited to experience jewellery that doesn’t just adorn—but connects, grounds, and honours the Earth.
